Local LiveWire volunteers make a difference in Warrington

As the nation gears up to celebrate Volunteers’ Week (1 – 7 June), LiveWire announces that the amount of time that Warrington residents have volunteered for LiveWire’s projects and activities has broken the 6,500 hour mark in just one year. This equates to £98,781 of in-kind funding.

Over 12-months volunteers from across Warrington volunteered more than 6,500 hours of their time to help LiveWire to promote healthy lifestyles and to encourage residents to participate in group activities, whilst also encouraging reading and learning in local libraries.

Volunteering success

People choose to volunteer for their own reasons but for many it is to give something back to the community or to make a positive impact on people’s lives. For others it provides an opportunity to meet new people, share knowledge and learn new skills.

“I’ve had a great time volunteering this year!,” says Jonny, a 15-year old Burtonwood resident and avid volunteer who spent the summer of 2017 volunteering at LiveWire libraries. “I’ve really enjoyed talking to people in the library and I also liked helping with the crafts.”

Barry Jones, a volunteer and mentor on LiveWire Fit To Tackle (FTT) course for over two years, said: “It is so satisfying to be a volunteer and a mentor; to see people who have gone through the FTT course, who I have helped and encouraged for those 12-weeks, going on to run half marathons, climb mountains, continue to lose weight and live a healthier and happier lifestyle”.

“I see people who are initially quite anxious and lonely, who then complete the 12-week course and are then much more confident and have a whole new group of friends.

“It’s an honour and a privilege to make a small difference to the lives of other people.”

Thank you all our volunteers

To everyone who volunteers for LiveWire, or will take up volunteering in the future, we want to thank you during Volunteers’ Week.

Whether it’s inspiring young people and families to get physically active, providing support within our libraries, helping out at local events, or giving up your time for one of the other many volunteering roles we offer, each and every one of our volunteers helps to make a real difference.

We value the support and dedication of all our volunteers.
