You will be matched up with someone who can’t get to the library themselves, perhaps because they are ill or elderly. You will choose books or audio books that match the person’s interests and deliver them to their home. You will then collect and exchange items for them on a regular basis. This is a great opportunity to help people access reading and can be a real lifeline to people unable to easily leave home.
This role would suit a friendly and organised person, of course a love of books is an advantage. A driver’s licence would be ideal to be able to get around but not necessary.
This role also requires a DBS enhanced check which will be done free of charge.
You will visit someone one a regular basis to read to them out loud. This maybe someone who is partially sighted or blind, or who prefers to listen to a story rather than reading independently. This service gives people access to reading and books and for many can be a welcome befriending service as well.

You will assist in leading the Read to Relax sessions at a local library. Read to Relax is a weekly reading group that brings people together to enjoy a story along with a cup of tea and a chat. Participants choose whether they want to read along or just sit back and listen. You will help to prepare the space for the reading group, welcome participants and read the book out loud during the session.
This role would be ideal for a confident and friendly person who is happy to read out loud in a clear voice. You would need to be able to commit to helping at the group once a week or once a fortnight.
