Warrington primary school children have the chance to serve like Andy Murray

Coaches from LiveWire will be delivering free tennis sessions for years one, two and reception pupils in schools across the borough from Monday 6 – Friday 10 February.

Pupils from Culcheth Community, Newchurch, Winwick, Woolston, Christ Church, Twiss Green, Croft, St Lewis, Gorse Covert, Bruche and St Peter’s Catholic primary schools will have the chance to try out their serve on inflatable tennis courts and will receive support from expert coaches.

The free sessions are being delivered as part of the Lawn Tennis Association’s (LTA) mini tennis programme, sponsored by Highland Spring.

The programme offers the perfect introduction to the sport for young children with smaller courts, nets and rackets and lower bouncing balls.

The week long programme will culminate in a free tennis open weekend on Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 February at Birchwood Leisure & Tennis Complex.

Young people, between the ages of three and ten, and their families will have the chance to take part in tennis themed games, rallies and activities with free equipment provided.

John Whitehall, senior LiveWire advisor for tennis, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for young children to get involved in tennis for the first time.

“The tailored approach of mini tennis enables players to develop vital skills and techniques at an early age.”

The tennis roadshow runs from 11am-12.30pm and 2pm-3.30pm on Saturday 11 February and from 11am-12.30pm on Sunday 12 February.
