Families in Latchford encouraged to get active together
Over the next eight weeks, LiveWire will be delivering a number of sessions for families to take part in together to improve their fitness levels and their eating habits.
The Active Families project is the first programme of its kind to be run by LiveWire; it has a real focus on providing intergenerational activities that can support families to change their lifestyles.
Activities on offer as part of the project include; retro playground games, netball, swimming, yoga, dance, boxing, nutritional classes, and quizzes and games.
The first session took place last week with a number of local families attending to select their activity programme for the duration of the project.
Paul Flannery, neighbourhood engagement officer at LiveWire, who is delivering the project, said: “This project has been developed following feedback from families whose children were attending Westy Boxing Club but wanted to improve the health and wellbeing of their entire family.
“We identified that there was a real need for family activity in the area, and in particular work to do around encouraging healthy living.
“We applied for funding through the Latch Ford Big Local Area and are pleased to have been successful so we can deliver sessions to enhance the lives of entire families in the area.”
The Big Local Trust was established by Local Trust and the Big Lottery Fund to support 150 communities in England – giving them their share of an almost £200 million National Lottery grant between now and 2026 to facilitate projects which promote community cohesion.
This is the second time LiveWire has benefited from funding from the Latch Ford Big Local Area – the neighbourhood wellbeing company was awarded a grant earlier this year to run the This Girl Can programme in Latchford and Westy.
LiveWire has already improved the lives of residents in the area through the Westy Boxing Club which has helped dramatically reduce the number of anti-social behaviour incidents since it launched in 2015.
