New year, new you

LiveWire and Warrington Borough Council’s free 10-week exercise programme gets under way in January. Open to women aged 18 and over, ‘This Warrington Girl Can’ is part of the national This Girl Can initiative. It is designed to provide a taster of different ways to be more active.

The scheme gives females over the age of 18 the chance to take part in a range of fun activities, such as belly dancing, golf, tennis, archery, pilates, yoga and much more.

Women will be supported through the 10 weeks by a mentor who will help them believe ‘they can’ by maintaining their self-belief, confidence and motivation.

Warrington Borough Council’s executive board member for public health and wellbeing, Cllr Maureen McLaughlin, said: “This Girl Can is a fantastic initiative which challenges women to get involved in activities they never thought they would try.

“The initiative is aimed at women who may have lacked the confidence to take part in activities which help them get active and healthy. It breaks down those barriers and gives women the chance to make positive changes in a fun way with like-minded people.

“The new year is the perfect time to try new things, and I would encourage Warrington women who have been thinking about getting active to sign up and make lifestyle changes that will last.”

This Warrington Girl Can is being run by the Active LiveWire team in partnership with Warrington Borough Council’s neighbourhoods team.

Emma Hutchinson, managing director of LiveWire, said: “We are delighted to be a part of the ‘This Girl Can’ initiative again this year. Women who have taken part in previous programs have achieved some amazing results.

“LiveWire constantly aims to bring the best campaigns to the Warrington community and we’re really excited about this year’s initiative.”
