Talented Athletes Programme Alumni
Sam Dickenson
Keeping fit and healthy was always on the agenda for Samuel Dickenson. However, with help from the Talented Athletes Programme, he achieved a childhood dream in the rugby industry.
From aged 5, Samuel played in his local amateur rugby league, the Woolston Rovers Golds. It was at this point that he felt at home, and knew he wanted to pursue rugby professionally.
“I played sport from a young age and have always been fiercely competitive”
By 2022, he had the opportunity to represent the Warrington Wolves as a scholarship player. Naturally, he started thinking about becoming a professional athlete. That’s where LiveWire came in. Samuel qualified for the Talented Athletes Programme and started a structured programme to fit around his existing commitments.
The Talented Athletes Programme also helped Samuel adjust to becoming a scholarship player. He notes that strength and conditioning work in the gym were important skills that could be transferred directly to performance on the field.
“The support I have received from everyone over the last two years has made the journey a fun, informative and enjoyable one. It has set me up to succeed and I’m proud and thankful for everything the programme has given me.”
Following a consistent programme at LiveWire enabled Samuel to feel ready for the next stage in his career. The team went on to win the Four Nations Trophy. He also secured Player of the Match for his performance against England. Since his debut, Samuel was not only selected to represent Wales, but also captain the team.
Samuel’s journey has inspired many. From feeling overwhelmed in the gym to being awarded a professional contract with the Warrington Wolves Academy, we’re proud to have been a part of his story so far.
“I could not have done it without the Talented Athletes Programme run by LiveWire.”
