If the idea of losing weight feels daunting, you’re not alone. The LiveWire Lifestyles team is here to help you take those first steps with a programme of support that’s tailored to you. We offer flexible options including group sessions, one-to-one support, and virtual or telephone appointments — so you can find what works best for you. Our team supports anyone with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30 or above. If you’re unsure of your BMI, we can help calculate it for you — all we need is your height and weight. If you meet the eligibility criteria, your GP can refer you or you can contact us directly by emailing lifestyles@livewirewarrington.org to begin your weight loss journey today.

National Diabetes Prevention Programme 

The NDPP is a national NHS England scheme designed to help people at risk of developing type 2 diabetes. This nine-month behaviour change programme focuses on healthy eating, physical activity and small, sustainable lifestyle changes to delay or prevent the onset of diabetes.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • HbA1c blood test has a reading of between 42-47 mmol/mol
  • History of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM)
  • Aged 18 or over
  • Not currently pregnant

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Pregnant at time of referral
  • Individuals with confirmed diagnosis of type 2 diabetes
  • Individuals with normal blood glucose readings on referral to service

Specialist Weight Management Programme

This is a non-surgical, intensive medical management service delivered by a specialist multi-disciplinary team. It includes doctors with expertise in weight management, specialist nurses, dietitians, psychological support, and exercise therapists or physiotherapists.

The specialist service is for individuals with a BMI over 40 or a BMI 35+ with significant co-morbidities and generally lasts for a 12 month period.

If you are considering bariatric surgery, this programme forms an important part of your preparation. You’ll need to be referred by your GP and must have completed either a Tier 2 programme or the National Diabetes Prevention Programme before joining.

NHS Digital Weight Management Programme

If you are living with obesity (BMI 30+ or BMI 27.5+ for Black, Asian and ethnic minority backgrounds) and have diabetes or high blood pressure you could benefit from this free, 12-week digital programme.

Accessible on your smartphone, tablet or computer, it helps you build healthy habits, make informed food choices and stay active.
