Hi I’m Julie and I have a passion for all things health and fitness!

3 facts about me

  • I became a personal trainer at age 60
  • I worked in local government admin and customer service for 30 years
  • I’ve taught fitness classes for over 15 years

Why I become a personal trainer?

I have trained most of my adult life and more recently got into progressive strength training. My mother had osteoporosis but this was at a time when there was little knowledge of the benefits of strength training in the management and even prevention of osteoporosis. I decided to qualify as a personal trainer so that I could help other mature women to confidently navigate the weights room to reap all the amazing benefits from gaining more muscle and strength. At 63 my bone mineral density is excellent and I put that down to regular strength training and exercise.

What am I passionate about?

I am passionate about people taking ownership of their health through education around nutrition and fitness. Doing the strength training without optimising on the right foods can be counterproductive. Many health conditions such as high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, insulin resistance (diabetes) and obesity can be the result of poor diets coupled with little or no exercise. The main principles to ensure a healthy functioning body are to minimise processed foods and processed carbohydrates, eat mainly whole single ingredient foods and prioritise protein and fibre. It’s also about gradually making the changes so that clients don’t become too overwhelmed and new habits are formed over time. I want my clients to look back at their former selves and appreciate just how much their lives have changed for the better just by taking back control of their health!!

A success story

I have a mature client who I have been coaching for a few months. She is progressing really well with her strength training and is currently deadlifting 40kg with perfect form. Every session she just gets on with it and puts in the work! Very proud of her!!
