Alan retired after 21 years as a Headteacher, the last 14 years at the ‘outstanding’ Great Sankey High School in Warrington. Under his tenure, the school became a national leader in developing partnerships and working collaboratively with other schools, businesses and the local community. Educated in Wigan and Liverpool with a B.A. (Hons) in Economics and a M.Sc. in Education Management, Alan also holds post-graduate qualifications in Physical Education and Business Administration.
With 36 years working in education, he has always been involved with sport and the wider community during this time. Alan is a past member of Cheshire and Warrington Connexions Board, chair of Warrington Secondary School and College Leaders Association and several national education development boards. He is currently a member of the Warrington and Cheshire Rugby League Development Board, Board member of the Wolves Foundation and Chair of Cheshire Police Anti-Bullying Commission.
As a very active user of Warrington leisure services, Alan enjoys going to the gym, swimming, playing badminton or tennis and watching Manchester United and both Wigan and Warrington RFL. He is learning to sail, enjoys cooking and travelling. Alan is married to Sheila (also a former Warrington secondary Headteacher) with one son, who is Head of PE at a local school.
