Alan’s career has been in social care, as a qualified social worker since 1973 and he was employed for over 32 years by St Helens Council until his retirement in April 2011. He held a variety of managerial roles in both children’s and adult services, including day and supported living services for adults with learning and physical disabilities and elderly people with dementia. Latterly, he was seconded to lead staff training and public awareness for the emerging personalisation agenda in social care.

Alan is a parish councillor for the Burtonwood and Westbrook ward and is their representative on the Warrington Public Rights of Way forum. This reflects his leisure interests in fell walking, as well as a keen interest in cycling, music, reading, current affairs and gardening.  He is a Governor at St Philip (Westbrook) C of E Aided Primary School.

He is married with two adult children and close family ties and an active role as granddad.  He is Chair of ‘Westbrook & Callands Communities’, a group of residents working closely with LiveWire Warrington CIC® to develop a Neighbourhood Hub at Westbrook Library. He is also Chair of ‘Friends of Westbrook Community Orchard’, a partnership between local residents, The Land Trust and St Philips School.
