Over £50k in new funding secured for community sport across Warrington
LiveWire’s sports development team has been working hard behind the scenes to secure over £50,000 in new funding to deliver a range of community-focused projects across Warrington.
The funding from Streetgames, Youth Endowment fund, Clarion housing, and Community Safety Partnership will support targeted initiatives aimed at improving health, reducing anti-social behaviour and creating opportunities for residents of all ages to get involved in sport and physical activity.
Projects to benefit from the funding include:
- A new junior boxing programme, in partnership with StreetGames and Matchroom
- Community cricket sessions
- Youth outreach in Padgate
- Anti-social behaviour reduction activities
- Expanded mentoring opportunities through the Back on Track scheme
The new junior boxing programme is already taking shape, with weekly sessions set to include guest visits from professional boxers and the chance for participants to attend live events. As with all LiveWire sport-led interventions, the focus is on:
- improving physical and mental wellbeing
- reducing anti-social behaviour
- building long-term engagement and confidence through sport
Cllr Jean Flaherty, deputy leader of the council and cabinet member for communities, culture and leisure, said: “We’re really proud to have secured this funding, which gives us the opportunity to reach more young people and communities who really benefit from the support we provide.
“These projects aren’t just about sport, they’re about giving people a sense of purpose, connection and belonging in an environment which is fun and engaging. I’d like to thank the sponsors for the funding, we can make a little go a long way and ultimately make a real and lasting difference to people’s lives.”
