16 hours per week

Fixed term contract until 31st March 2020

Pay range: £15,059 - £16,073 (pro-rata for part time working).  Those aged 25 and above the hourly rate is £8.21

LiveWire is contracted to provide prison library services at HM Prison Risley. The work within a prison library is challenging yet very rewarding and an opportunity has arisen for someone to join the team at HM Risley Prison Library.

HM Prison Risley is a Category C men’s prison so this isn’t a typical library and this isn’t a typical Library Assistant role. It’s a role for helping to design and deliver quality of life services which make a meaningful difference to offenders by changing their lives for the better.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about the value of reading, and who will encourage and support informal learning. You will be supported by a Prison Librarian and work alongside another Library Assistant and Prison Orderlies.

You must have a genuine commitment to equality and diversity, be able to abide by prison regulations and observe strict confidentiality.

Duties involve supporting users in their reading choices, administering literacy schemes, supporting Library Connected’s health, wellbeing and cultural initiatives and basic library clerical duties.

You will have a good educational background, keyboard skills and be committed to providing excellent service. Previous experience of working in a library is desirable although training will be given.

This is a 16 hour post with hours to be worked Monday to Friday with the potential for weekend working on Saturdays in the future. The pattern of hours is to be discussed with candidates.

The successful applicant will be required to apply for prison security clearance.
