A new chapter at Birchwood Community Hub

The Livewire team is excited to welcome you back to the newly renovated Birchwood Community Hub! Check out the new and improved facilities, while we continue to work on the main and spin studio.

Renovated reception and changing rooms.

We’ve given our reception and changing rooms a complete makeover. Our goal is to create a warm and inviting entrance that sets the tone for your entire experience at Birchwood. Say goodbye to the mundane and hello to a welcoming and cosy environment.

Fitness suite revamp

Get ready to take your fitness journey to the next level in our revamped fitness suite. We’ve introduced brand-new cardio Technogym equipment, expanded our free-weights area, and added more space for functional training. Whether you’re into cardio, strength training, or functional workouts, we have the equipment and space you need to achieve your fitness goals.

Newly refurbished tennis hall

For all the tennis enthusiasts out there, you’ll be pleased to know that the renovations of our tennis hall floor has been completed and the new court dividers have been installed, so our courts are now reopen and ready for play.

Modern library

In a bid to cater to the diverse needs of our community, we’ve transformed the unused bar area into a modern library. You’ll find a wide selection of books for all ages, and we’ve even set up a special section dedicated to kids’ books and computers. It’s the perfect place to unwind, read, or study.

Main and spin studio

Our studio space still requires a couple of weeks to complete the refurbishment work, so fitness classes will continue to be held in the community room, however, we can wait to open the doors to our brand new spin studio!

DONT PUT A CAP ON SWIMMING image

LiveWire leads the way in Water Wellbeing

We have some great news to share with you all! LiveWire is delighted to announce that two of our facilities have received Swim England’s esteemed Water Wellbeing Accreditation. We were also spotlighted in Swim England’s press release last month, celebrating our dedicated programme aimed at helping people with long-term health conditions enjoy our pools.

But that’s not all! Our achievements caught the attention of Swim England’s new Value of Swimming campaign, leading to LiveWire starring in their latest promotional video – Don’t put a cap on swimming. This campaign focuses on the crucial role that the nation’s pools play in promoting health and wellbeing.

The Word on Health, Fitness and Lifestyle

We’re on the look-out for your good-quality, unneeded sports clothing and equipment, which will use to help children in the local area to take part in sport. We aim to break down barriers to participation in sports and physical activities for many children.

Donations can include items such as:

  • Trainers
  • Tracksuits
  • Tops
  • Shorts
  • Shin pads
  • Bike helmets

We invite you to join us to help promote health and well-being among children of all backgrounds. You can contribute to the Kit4All scheme by dropping off your donations at the Orford Jubilee Hub in Warrington.

Your generous contributions will be carefully sorted, cleaned, and provided to children in our community, inspiring a love for sports and an active lifestyle among the younger generation.

Menopause Awareness Month

Menopause Awareness Month

October marks Menopause Awareness Month, and, while menopause is a natural phase, it brings about hormonal changes that can significantly impact your mood, energy levels, and overall well-being.

Did you know we host Mind Movement Menopause sessions at Orford Jubilee Neighbourhood Hub. The sessions are designed for women going through different stages of menopause with an approach that targets the entire mind and body, including exercise and health and nutrition advice. For more information about how to book on to these sessions, please see this link.

One area that often takes a hit during menopause is nutrition and exercise. So, here are some practical tips on how to eat and move your way to better health during menopause.

Eating right during menopause

  1. Boost Calcium and Vitamin D: Bone density can decrease during menopause, so make sure to include calcium-rich foods like leafy greens and dairy. Vitamin D supplements can also help with absorption.
  2. Up the Protein: Lean protein can help maintain muscle mass, especially when coupled with regular exercise.
  3. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate: Hot flushes can leave you dehydrated, so keep a water bottle handy at all times.
  4. Limit Sugar and Processed Foods: These can exacerbate mood swings and contribute to weight gain, which is common during menopause.
  5. Opt for Phytoestrogens: Foods like tofu, tempeh, and flaxseeds contain phytoestrogens that may help balance hormones.

Exercise tips for menopausal women

  1. Aerobic Exercise: Cardiovascular activities like walking, swimming, or cycling can help manage weight and boost your mood.
  2. Join our menopause programme: LiveWire runs a six-week programme to helps equip you for menopause, from healthy eating to practical exercise tips to keep you at your best. Find out more about it here.
  3. Strength Training: Weight-bearing exercises can help combat the loss of muscle mass and bone density.
  4. Flexibility and Balance: Yoga and Pilates are excellent for improving flexibility, balance, and mental clarity—helpful for combating the cognitive fog that can come with menopause.
  5. Listen to Your Body: Some days you might not feel up to an intense workout, and that’s OK. Even light stretching or a brief walk can make a difference.
  6. Speak to your doctor: Before starting any new exercise regimen, it’s wise to consult a healthcare provider, especially if you have other medical conditions.

Remember, menopause is a phase of life, not a medical condition. It’s different for everyone, so be sure to tailor your approach to what feels best for you. Here’s to a healthier, more comfortable menopausal journey!
