Stepping out for National Walking Month
May is National Walking Month – it aims to get more people walking, no matter what their level of fitness is.
LiveWire’s FREE Health Walks
Warrington residents are being encouraged to take part in the free weekly health walks organised by LiveWire across the town.
The group health walks are open to everyone, but are particularly aimed at those residents who currently do little or no physical activity. Residents can take part in the short walks that are led by friendly advisors and volunteers who provide encouragement and support to help people enjoy the many physical and mental health benefits that walking brings.

Free Carbon Landscape Walks
LiveWire also lead Carbon Landscape Walks in Warrington in areas such as Risley Moss, Woolston Eyes, Rixton Claypits and Paddington Meadows. These walks are two hours in duration and they encourage people to experience the wonderful wildlife and wild spaces in Warrington, while enjoying a healthy walk.
Walking is a low impact exercise that has been shown to reduce the risk of chronic illnesses, such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, dementia, stroke and some cancers. While getting out in the fresh air with friends can help combat loneliness and depression.

Walking – get fitter and feel brighter
Neil Morley, Senior LiveWire Lifestyles Advisor said: “Short regular walks are a fabulous way to get more active and to improve your health. Our free walks are short and over easy terrain, and we provide encouragement and support, making sure that no one gets left behind.
“If you’ve had problems with your health or are new to walking, our health walks can help to get you out walking again.
“It’s easy to get involved – just turn up a before the start of a walk. The groups are really friendly, and you’ll have trained walk leaders to take you on some great walking routes. The walks are great way to help you to lead a healthy lifestyle and will help you to get fitter and feel brighter.”
If residents’ are unable to join the organised group walks, LiveWire is urging people to walk for 20 minutes a day, by trying to incorporate more walking into daily routines by walking to work or taking a stroll with friends.
