LiveWire community come together to celebrate the life of Maria Herrick

Maria Herrick

The LiveWire community came together on Sunday 26th April for a moving charity Zumba and Body Combat event held in loving memory of Maria Herrick, a much‑loved former participant who sadly passed away at the end of last year.

The special event welcomed over 100 participants, who took part in two high‑energy Body Combat classes and a Zumba session, raising more than £2,000 for the British Heart Foundation and the North West Air Ambulance.

The morning was a celebration not only of fitness, but of friendship, kindness and the lasting impact Maria had on everyone around her.

Maria, born 17 July 1972, was an avid group exercise enthusiast and a regular across a wide range of classes. She was well known for her infectious enthusiasm, warm personality and ability to make every person in the room feel seen and welcome. Newcomers to classes were often taken under her wing, as Maria made it her mission to help people feel comfortable, confident and part of the group.

Always a front‑row regular, Maria knew the choreography inside out and was never shy about letting instructors know if they’d missed a move, something she did with good humour and a big smile. It was a trait fondly remembered by instructors and participants alike.

Maria was also a devoted mum to her two sons, Adam and Daniel. We’re honoured to see that Adam’s carrying on Maria’s love for Body Combat as a regular class member.

Beyond fitness, Maria loved spending time with her family and friends and was a big fan of long walks and holidays. Her kindness, humour and talkative nature meant she truly knew everyone and everyone knew her.

Sunday’s event reflected everything Maria stood for: bringing people together, supporting others and spreading positivity.

We were delighted with the incredible turnout and generosity shown on the day, thanking everyone who took part, donated or helped organise the event.

Through movement and shared moments, Maria’s legacy lives on in the community she helped bring together.
