Applications open for LiveWire’s Talented Athlete Programme – backed by Olympic athlete it helped support
Applications are open for LiveWire’s Talented Athlete Programme that offers vital training and support for free – and helped one young rower make it to the Tokyo Olympics this summer.
LiveWire’s Athlete Development Programme helps up and coming young athletes over the age of 14 achieve their maximum potential in their chosen sport by giving them free access to the organisation’s sites via a free annual leisure membership/
LiveWire is the biggest provider of leisure facilities in Warrington and those selected to take part also receive bespoke training programmes tailored to the specific needs of their chosen sport, and general lifestyle advice.
One successful athlete who benefited from the programme in previous years is rower Lucy Glover, who this summer competed for Great Britain in the Quad Skulls event the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
Lucy said: “LiveWire’s Talented Athlete Programme has been beneficial in enabling me to rise to the top of my sport and become an Olympian. It has provided invaluable support and access to facilities which have allowed me to reach my full potential as a high performance athlete.”
Emma Hutchinson, Managing Director of LiveWire said: “LiveWire has been running this scheme for a number of years now and it’s fantastic for us to have been able to support so many local, aspiring athletes. It was very exciting this summer to see Lucy represent Great Britain in the Olympics and we are very proud that this programme has played a part in Lucy’s brilliant success. We urge anyone interested to apply to this scheme which gives them free access to state-of-the-art facilities and staff expertise. We want to continue to support the best of Warrington’s athletes and play our part in developing the next generation of Olympians, Paralympians and elite sports people.”
LiveWire is inviting previous and new applicants to apply by Friday 8th October for the 2021/22 programme with membership beginning from 1st November 2021.
To qualify, you must –
- Reside in or represent a club in Warrington.
- Compete in a sport recognised by Sport England.
- Be over 14 years of age, however, we recognise children may need to access support at an earlier age with some sports such as Gymnastics, so will assess applications appropriately.
- Ideally represent your county or country at Junior or Senior level.
