If you are unable to visit the library because of ill health or a disability you can sign up to the home library scheme; this can be for a long or short-term period.
You will be allocated a volunteer who will choose and deliver books matched to your reading interests and needs to your home. The volunteer will visit you regularly to collect and exchange items by an arranged agreement.
Many of our registered volunteers have been visiting the same client over several years and have formed a close friendship.
One client said of the service: “Each of the volunteers I've had has been excellent. Not only have they delivered books and tapes but they have stayed for a chat which made my day.”

Would you like to volunteer?
Do you have a small amount of time every month? Do you like talking to people?
You'll need to commit to a regular arrangement with the reader you visit, and allow time to visit a library to pick up and return books.
Because you're visiting a vulnerable person, we do require two personal references and a successful Disclosure and Barring Service check before you can volunteer.
You will be accompanied on your first visit by a member of library staff and ongoing support is available. Please contact Julie King on 01925 813939 or 07730 075968 for more information.
Read to me service
Do you have difficulty reading because of ill health or a disability and find it hard to get into your local library? Then join our Read to Me Service.
A friendly volunteer will visit you on a regular basis and read to you in your own home for an hour or so.
It is your choice whether you want to read along or sit back, relax and listen.
