If you are unable to visit the library because of ill health, disability issues or carer responsibilities, you can sign up to our Home Library Service; this can be for a long or short-term period.
We are expanding this service - on a temporary basis- to support more people to access reading material; this includes those who are vulnerable, shielding or self-isolating.
You will be allocated a volunteer who will choose books - matched to your reading interests and needs- and deliver them to your home. The volunteer will visit you regularly to collect and exchange items by an arranged agreement.
Would you like to volunteer?
Do you have a small amount of time each month? Do you like talking to people? Would you like to make a real difference to someone’s life?
You will be allocated a client and will need to commit to a regular arrangement to collect and exchange reading material for them. You will also need to allow time to select and return books to one of our libraries.
A member of library staff will accompany you on your first visit and ongoing support is available.
Many of our registered volunteers have been visiting the same client over several years and have formed a close friendship.
One client said of the service: “Each of the volunteers I've had has been excellent. Not only have they delivered books and tapes but they have stayed for a chat which made my day.”
