The Warrington policy states: it is expected that school staff are appropriately trained and assisting on poolside during a swimming lesson.

This course is designed to give school staff the confidence and expertise to assist a more qualified teacher in the teaching of a range of core aquatic skills to a small group of similar ability within the context of a school swimming programme. It is suitable for teachers and/or responsible adults who will accompany their classes swimming.

This course is specifically for school Midday Assistants as a guide to provide them with the confidence and skills to deliver sporting activities to pupils. Midday Assistants will set-up "homework" activities for children to practise sport at lunchtimes and bring an element of fun into playtimes.

The course is suitable for schools who have either completed or plan to access whole school training in Real PE.

'real PE' provides fun and simple to follow schemes of work and support for Early Years Foundation Stage, Key Stage 1 (KS1) and Key Stage 2 (KS2) practitioners that give them the confidence and skills to deliver outstanding PE. It is fully aligned to the new National Curriculum and Ofsted requirements and focuses on the development of agility, balance and coordination, healthy competition and cooperative learning through a unique and market leading approach to teaching and learning in PE. It is the only Scheme of Work with a curriculum map, clear learning journeys, integrated assessment framework and tool to evidence and celebrate rapid sustained progress.

"Given me confidence and am excited about teaching PE in this way!"

"An inspiring, enjoyable and thought provoking day".

Throughout the course, teachers will be provided with: training, lesson plans, skill development ladders and scaffolding techniques for all ages and stages. This will allow pupils to develop their skills and understanding of gymnastics.

  • A 1 day course and supporting resource which aligns to the Fundamental Movement Skills and holistic approaches of 'real PE'
  • Delegates will discover myths surrounding gymnastics, explore new and creative pathways to bring gymnastics to life and create an enjoyable lesson
  • Supporting Resources Schemes of Work for all year groups will provide ideas and themes from warm-up through to skill application including: sequence work (with music), large apparatus, hand apparatus, pair and group work as well as partner balances.
