The Warrington policy states: it is expected that school staff are appropriately trained and assisting on poolside during a swimming lesson.
This course is designed to give school staff the confidence and expertise to assist a more qualified teacher in the teaching of a range of core aquatic skills to a small group of similar ability within the context of a school swimming programme. It is suitable for teachers and/or responsible adults who will accompany their classes swimming.
This course is specifically for school Midday Assistants as a guide to provide them with the confidence and skills to deliver sporting activities to pupils. Midday Assistants will set-up "homework" activities for children to practise sport at lunchtimes and bring an element of fun into playtimes.
The course is suitable for schools who have either completed or plan to access whole school training in Real PE.
'real PE' provides fun and simple to follow schemes of work and support for Early Years Foundation Stage, Key Stage 1 (KS1) and Key Stage 2 (KS2) practitioners that give them the confidence and skills to deliver outstanding PE. It is fully aligned to the new National Curriculum and Ofsted requirements and focuses on the development of agility, balance and coordination, healthy competition and cooperative learning through a unique and market leading approach to teaching and learning in PE. It is the only Scheme of Work with a curriculum map, clear learning journeys, integrated assessment framework and tool to evidence and celebrate rapid sustained progress.

Real Gym is available to any Key Stage 1 teacher of PE who has attended the real PE training. Throughout the course, teachers will be provided with: training, lesson plans, skill development ladders and scaffolding techniques for all ages and stages. This will allow pupils to develop their skills and understanding of gymnastics.
- A 1 day course and supporting resource which aligns to the Fundamental Movement Skills and holistic approaches of 'real PE'
- Delegates will discover myths surrounding gymnastics, explore new and creative pathways to bring gymnastics to life and create an enjoyable lesson
- Supporting Resources Schemes of Work for all year groups will provide ideas and themes from warm-up through to skill application including: sequence work (with music), large apparatus, hand apparatus, pair and group work as well as partner balances.
Opportunity for subject leaders to meet in their own neighbourhoods to find out the latest information, share good practice and meet with other members. Representatives from the Livewire team, Warrington School Sports Partnership and the Warrington Wolves will also be available to speak to.
Two separate, stand-alone days in the year designed to support and enable subject leaders, the event is great for new and experienced teachers. More information is provided closer to the date.
A course specifically for Key Stage 2 staff focussing on Outdoor and Adventurous Activities.
Teachers will have the confidence to deliver a programme of outdoor and adventurous activities to Key Stage 2 pupils. A complete resource pack will also be provided.
A course for Key Stage 2 teachers will provide them with the confidence and skills to use Dance to teach pupils about World War 1. The current course is using Michael Morpurgo's "War Horse" as a theme to introduce World War 1 through dance. Delegates will receive a 6 week set of lesson plans aimed at KS2 pupils.
The course is designed to support new or recently appointed subject leaders in tackling PE in school.
