'Live well with LiveWire'

The Government have ring fenced PE and school sport funding to all Primary Schools until 2016 with the pledge to continue with this until 2020. Organisations working across the town are delighted that the Government have recognised the importance of sustained funding to support schools. All organisations involved are committed to working together to provide the best service and create a positive impact on the young people of Warrington. Partners are contributing towards achieving the Warrington Active Strategy target by making Warrington the most active borough in the North West by 2016.

Schools in Warrington were extremely successful throughout 2013/14 one of the more strategic successes has been the formation of the PE and School Sport Reference Group. This group consists of representatives from; Warrington School Sport Partnership (WaSSP), the Warrington Wolves Charitable Foundation, Active Warrington team and Active Cheshire. Head Teacher representatives from the East, South and West Neighbourhoods of Warrington are also included within the group.

Warrington School Sports Partnership gives every school in Warrington an entitlement to access the School Games government initiative through Competition, Young Leadership opportunities, Club outlets and Change4life clubs. In addition, they offer a partner school scheme enabling schools to access additional resources and opportunities to enhance their PE and school sport provision.

Head Teachers included within the group act as a voice for Primary Schools and provide feedback to the fellow partners. Any feedback received is used to focus on developing a Federation of quality providers offering PE and school sport support. The vision for the Federation is that it will be available to all providers who meet quality assurance standards. All partners are committed to implementing a fully-fledged federation in place for the 2015/16 academic year.

Part of the phase one Federation development is consulting with a range of partners who will become a part of the vision for 2015/16. In the meantime, LiveWire, Warrington Borough Council and The Warrington Wolves Charitable Foundation are able to offer a menu of opportunities for the 2014/15 academic year. Warrington School Sport Partnership is currently committed to a two year programme of support to their partner schools and would gladly welcome other schools to join for the coming academic year.
