Prison Library Assistant, HMP Thorn Cross Library
Hours: 17 hours per week
Salary: £7,127.00 – £7,606.00 (National Living Wage for age 23 years and over)

An opportunity has arisen for someone to join the team at HM Thorn Cross Prison Library as a Library Assistant. .
LiveWire is contracted to provide library services to HM Prison Thorn Cross which is a Category D adult male institution in Appleton Thorn, Warrington. The library isn’t a typical library and the opportunity isn’t a typical Library Assistant role. It’s a role for helping to design and deliver quality of life services which make a meaningful difference to offenders by changing their lives for the better.
We are looking for someone who is passionate about the value of reading, and who will encourage and support informal learning. You will be supported by a Prison Librarian and work alongside Prison Orderlies.
You must have a genuine commitment to equality and diversity, be able to abide by prison regulations and observe strict confidentiality.
Duties involve supporting users in their reading choices, administering literacy schemes, supporting Library Connected’s health, wellbeing and cultural initiatives and basic library clerical duties.
You will have a good educational background, keyboard skills and be committed to providing excellent service. Previous experience of working in a library is desirable although training will be given.
This is a 17 hour job with hours to be worked Monday to Friday and alternate Saturday mornings. The pattern of hours is to be discussed with candidates.
